Flutter-By Bears by Ruth Bowman The Artist About Myself My name is Ruth Bowman, and I live in Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire. I have been making miniature bears since 2002. I am inspired by all sorts of things; the seasons, a piece of fabric, a picture in a book , to make miniature creations full of character. Each one is made from my own original designs and I spend many hours perfecting each piece, giving great attention to every detail. I generally work with upholstery velvets; often the extra fine quality vintage versions, or Kunin Plush Felt, together with Ultrasuede for paws. Hollow fibre fill is used for stuffing and I always use onyx bead eyes. I have a passion for collecting trims, beads,and fabrics, particularly vintage ones. Ever since I can remember I’ve kept a stack of rainbow coloured felt, which I love to be creative with and I enjoy making accessories just as much as the bears!
